Photo of the weekend: Gstorian Levitation?
We finally had our long-awaited retreat, camping out northeast of SD county, 5,000 ft above sea level.
Refreshed, albeit lingering nostalgia: ready for coursework, running the store, technology and reality.
The General Store Coop
We are a non-profit, non-hierarchical, student run and owned organization on University of California San Diego's campus dedicated to providing low cost goods and lowering the cost of living for the student community.

REINVIGORATED via TECHNOLOGY
After quite sometime, the GStoar is back to harness the interweb (at least in Blogger terms). Modern technology has constantly been a fiery, controversial facet of the co-op--are we molding technology or is technology molding us?
We persist to question and challenge that false dichotomy of modern versus traditional. In constant motion, whether it'd be via REM sleep (fact#23: 60% of our current GStoarians vividly experience dreams and retain impeccable recollections), errands 'round the store or discussing and acting on issues integral for the UCSD student community's proactive growth, we Gstoarians constantly ask ourselves the eight dollar question of a lifetime (our minimum wage version of Regis Philbin's $1M):
Time versus intensity. Modern versus traditional. The GStoar can be thought of say, if Willy Wonka made a toy called Everlasting Putty. The General Store is constantly reworked, remolded, remixed into various shapes, textures, flavors depending on member dynamics, current challenges and parameters. To refresh the habitual homespun into exciting and to soothe the overwhelmingly new into something as pliable as the proactive familiar.
This is us today as the resiliently novel and pliable General Store Coop: handwritten love notes of customers' I-O-U's, inked meeting minutes in unruly stacks of notebooks, tallying up our vinyl record sales--literally--while using a quill (metaphorically, almost literally, because the pen has a feather attached to it). Our finance team orgasmic over the accounting software Quicken. Titillating features on our new Brothers printer. The oral tradition of passing down wisdom, clever shortcuts on the registry BAMF, exchanging guilty pleasure stories of past GStoarians.
Is h(is/er)story meant to be documented or fleeting? We'll leave that rhetoric for our generations of Gstoarians and community to ruminate on and challenge.
In the meantime, let's commemorate current GStoar events. Photo: the eleventh hour last Sunday in the GStoarians' thoughtful deliberation of the our future investment: the next generation of Gstore babies ready to do the family proud!
Welcome N00bs/Babies/Probationary members to the Gstoar family. Prepare to be loved and exploited <3

How can we better our contribution and service to the UCSD student community, considering our steadfast adaptation to changing times and technology while nurturing the core of our soul and individuality--epitomized in that pair of chewed up, grimy sneakers we all come home to for nostalgia and comfort?

We have restocked, reorganized, and revamped the store and...
All UCSD apparel is 50% off!
Come stop by, sit on our couch and play SNES, or our Tetris machine, rent a movie, play one of our community guitars or even VOLUNTEER!
VOLUNTEER INFO:
The General Store Coop along with Groundwork Books and the Food Coop will be having a Coop Volunteer information meeting on Monday the 28th at 2:00 PM outside the Food Coop.
Volunteering is a great way to get involved in the Old Student Center community -which of course is the best at UCSD - take our word for it!
Love always,
The General Store

The G-Store Reloaded!
Hey everyone!
If you haven't noticed, we've been overhauling the store lately.
We're doing our best to make it look less like 7-11 and more like....
Your room when you were seven?
It's true, we've updated with bright colors, the Tetris machine and free Super Nintendo and Nintendo 64 games, but we're still allllll grown-up.
We've still got your school supplies, energy drinks and cigarettes, and while we won't be switching over to juice boxes anytime soon, we still like to add an old-school flavor to things. Come see for yourself!
Also, come check out the newest addition to the Gstore, a DVD rental machine!
You can rent over 50 different new-release DVDs for only 1.99 (for the first night) and 99 cents each night after! You can even buy the DVD if you want!
And until 3/9/09 we will waive the first night fee and give you the first night FREE!
Yay free things.
You know you can't resist.

Valentine's Day at the G-Store!
So maybe Valentine's Day WAS invented by greedy candy and greeting card companies.
But does that mean your significant other will ever forgive you for not getting him/her a little something, something?
Probably not.
So subvert Hallmark and preserve the image of your sensitivity by coming to the General Store!!
Cards: 2.00 +tax
Candy: .05-1.20
Sunglasses: 5.00
Earrings: 3-4.00
Plus lots of student-made jewelry!
If you are feeling anti-Vday this year, we hear that chocolate, like time, heals all wounds.
So grab a King Size Snickers, come chill on our couch, and play some Mario Kart until your heart stitches itself back together!
And remember;
The G-Store ALWAYS loves you, whether it is a over-hyped commercialized holiday or not.
